WE Care

What:
WE Care is our Widows and Orphans Project based on James 1:27.
At this time our attention mostly goes out to children who go to school without food or drinks and children who have nothing at all.

Why:
Some parents can’t provide for the needs of them and their children. There is then also no money to send them to school and no education means no future. We want to sponsor children by paying for their school and/or food and drinks. Helping them to make life more pleasant!

Where:
In Entebbe and surrounding areas and in Nkanda Kulwowa (Kamuli).

Goal:
Giving children more hope for their future.

How:

In Kamuli there are several villages where people are so poor that they don’t have clothes or food for the children. After our visit to the Netherlands a lot of people started collecting clothes for these people. Neighbors of ours have started to collect clothes for this project.
We also have started taking care of Michelle, one of Faith’s nieces. Her parents can’t afford to take care of her since her father doesn’t have work because he is handicapped.
Michelle was passed around for care to someone else within the family about every month. Most of the time she would barely get any food and only her grandmother made sure she could go to school once in a while. Michelle has been living with us for almost a year and was at a healthy and normal weight within a few months. She is doing really well in her new school, too! It is our hope that in the future we can give more children a better future this way. Even on the more expensive private schools it happens that children are sent to school without food or drink because the parents can’t afford that. There are public schools that are cheaper. However the education level in these schools is so low that this doesn’t give a good perspective for the children’s futures. Most jobs require that you are able to speak English, but those schools only teach in the local language, such as Luganda. In addition, for further education at a college or university being able to speak English is a requirement.

Gerald and Godfreywecare.jpg

Since the summer of 2010 we also support two boys. Gerald on the left and Godfrey on the right. Gerald was working an inhumane number of hours per day, seven days a week and did not get any wages. He was a member of our previous church. After we heard this Faith and I prayed and knew that we should let him stay at our house temporarily. He was sick and his back was hurting a lot. Right now he is doing very well.

God called Godfrey to start a church. He has no income and came to our previous church. We offered him to come and have a meal with us and if he wants to he can also spend the night. He falls under project care until the church will be running well and he can receive his wages from the tithes.

Gloria

Gloria is 20 years old and she is from Mayuge, which is East Uganda. Godfrey is her brother. When we needed a help, Godfrey introduced her to us. And that is how Gloria came to join our home to help Faith with the children and when we are away she takes care of them for us. Gloria's mother has a skin problem all over her body and she can't sleep from the pain. Now Gloria has some small spots and last week it was discovered that those spots had grown bigger. Also Gloria has been developing pain at those spots. The only solution is surgery to have the spots removed. For now she was given some medicines to help her sleep well.
